Early Childhood Education
The Early Childhood Education Department of the Pasadena Unified School District serves children ages 3 - 5 at 15 different school locations across the District. PUSD’s Early Childhood Education Programs are designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, creative, linguistic, and cognitive development of each child through developmentally and culturally appropriate practices while responding to the needs of the child and his or her family. Programs include:
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is the first year of a two year kindergarten program. For 2024-25, children are eligible if they turn five years old from September 2, 2024 - June 2, 2025, and beginning in 2025-26, students who turn five between September 2, 2025 and September 2 of the following school year will be eligible for TK.
Full Day Preschool services are available only to families who meet eligibility requirements. Families who are not eligible for full day, may be able to obtain half-day preschool services. Mandarin DLIP is available on a full-fee basis only; Spanish DLIP is available on a full fee or subsidized basis. Children must be 3 years of age by September 1 in order to enroll in all preschool programs.
